Your Dentist in Katy, TX
Dr. Kim-Huong Tran of FamilyKare Dental
Dentistry has taught me understanding, patience, and perseverance, among other great lessons. I am very grateful to be dentist where I get to do what I love all day and help people with their dental needs.
I have learned to adapt to many different people and personalities; everyone is unique in their own way, and I have to adapt my communication so there is a clear understanding of what needs to be done and why. These relationships, based on kindness, respect, and compassion, are what have made my job as a dentist truly fulfilling. While challenging at times, I am pushed to become a better dentist and, in the end, a better person.
Education and continuing education
- Bachelor of Science in biomedical science – Texas A&M University
- Doctorate of Dental Surgery – University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston
My commitment to continuing education is based on my desire always to give my patients the best, most effective options. Whether attending courses, seminars, or conferences, I acquire the knowledge and training to keep me updated on the latest treatment modalities. I will continue to utilize all I have learned in dental school and many continuing education courses to provide the best dental care to patients who need my help.
Outside the office
I was born in Sai Gon, Vietnam. I fled the country with my family when I was nine years old and immigrated to Houston in 1981. I currently reside in Katy, TX with my husband, whom I met in my first year of college. We married after my graduation from dental school. We are dog lovers and have three beautiful four-legged “children.” My parents and adopted sister live with us as well. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by caring and loving people who take care of me as much as I care for them in our busy home.
I believe that when I am healthy and at my best, I can help others to be at their best. I practice yoga several times a week, love to play golf, and can often be found taking my dogs for long walks or to the park.
My husband and I have a great passion for travel. We were very grateful to have the opportunity to travel to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands in the summer of 2011; it was a trip of a lifetime to be able to see all the animals in their natural habitat. In the summer of 2012, we visited Vienna and the very beautiful city of Prague; to be able to learn about the culture and history was invaluable.
In the Katy community
I am involved in many activities in my Pagoda. As a practicing Buddhist, I have continually volunteered my time and money to the Vietnamese Buddhist Center and the Compassionate Service Society. I have sponsored the Katy Youth Soccer Club and Cinco Ranch High School theater program, as well as programs for youth and their education. Every year I donate money to my country, Vietnam, for various orphanages and schools managed by Buddhist nuns.
I have taken two dental mission trips to Nicaragua to provide treatments to people and children in rural areas. In the future I plan to take many more mission trips with Global Dental Relief, when time permits.
